Coffee Notes vs Flavored Coffee
21st Aug 2024
You may often see coffee websites mention the “notes” of different types of coffee. They are the description of the subtle flavors that are associated with the bean. This includes chocolate, nutty, smoky, earthy, fruity, and a host of other descriptions. Roasters use these descriptions to differentiate between the different types of coffee. These descriptions do not mean that flavors are added to the beans as they are roasted, they are just there to help guide you on how the coffee will taste.
To pick up the flavors in a coffee you must sip the coffee in a way that a small amount of coffee sprays over your palate. This helps differentiate the slight (or maybe large) differences in each coffee to help you find your favorite brew.
On the other hand, you will find roasters that add oils to their beans to create flavored coffee. These are often artificial ingredients added to the beans to create unique flavors that mask the real flavors of the coffee beans.
